FAQ — Reverse Osmosis

Answers to the most frequently asked questions in this category.

Water wasted relative to filtration, mineral removal that requires a remineralizer at the end of the process, dependence on water pressure, the ongoing cost of filters, and tank filling time. In most homes the advantage in water quality outweighs these, but it's important to go into it with your eyes open.

The membrane does also remove calcium and magnesium. The solution is a remineralizer at the end of the process that restores them and balances the taste. Don't skip it.

Every liter of filtered water also produces brine that goes to the drain. Newer-generation systems significantly improve the ratio compared to previous generations.

A typical lifespan is two to three years — but only if the filters before it are replaced on time. A membrane working behind clogged filters wears out much faster.

In areas with low pressure the system works more slowly. In such cases a booster pump is added.

New-generation smart systems work with Direct Flow technology and no storage tank — saving cabinet space and providing fresh water at any moment. A built-in electric pressure pump provides an especially fast dispensing rate, big water savings and an automatic self-cleaning system that preserves filter life.

Who it's for

  • For anyone without room for a 5–10 liter tank under the sink
  • For high-consumption households that don't want to wait for refilling
  • For homes where mains water pressure is low — the pump compensates for it

What's important to know beforehand

  • The system requires a free power outlet under the sink
  • The waste water ratio is significantly better than mechanical systems — usually 1:1 to 2:1 instead of 3:1 or more
  • The pump makes a slight hum while working, for just a few seconds

Maintenance

  • Replace the cartridge set once a year
  • No tools, with a twist-and-lock mechanism
