When choosing a home water system, how can you know it really does what it promises? The answer is standards — laboratory tests by an external body, without bias. Here's what each approval really means.
Israeli Standard 1505
The Standards Institution of Israel's standard for home drinking water treatment systems. It includes dozens of tests, and the product is re-tested once a year. That's the important part: not a one-time approval left hanging on the wall, but a repeated test.
NSF — the American standard
NSF is an independent American testing body that tests water treatment systems. NSF approval means the system was tested in an external laboratory and meets the requirements set by American bodies — not a manufacturer's statement about itself.
WRAS — the British standard
WRAS is the British standard for materials and components that come into contact with drinking water. It focuses on a different question from NSF: not just how good the filtration is, but what the materials themselves release into the water. A pipe, connector or filter housing made of an unsuitable material can be the problem, not the solution.
What it means in practice when buying
The three standards test different things, so they complement each other:
- 1505 — suitability for home use in Israel, with a repeated annual test.
- NSF — actual filtration performance, according to an independent laboratory test.
- WRAS — the safety of the materials in contact with the water.
A system carrying NSF and WRAS has been tested to standards valid in dozens of countries. That doesn't automatically make it right for you — you still need to match the system to the home, the water pressure and the family size — but it's the threshold from which the conversation starts.
Our threshold
At BEILIN H2O we work mainly with ECO SOFT — systems with NSF and WRAS approvals. I'll say this honestly: it's not unique to us. Serious competitors have certificates too, and that's fine. But it is the threshold we don't go below — with us there's no system without an international standard.
You can browse the osmosis systems and filters we install, as well as the comparison between osmosis and a water bar if you haven't decided yet.
